Even if you were born in the middle of the day, in broad daylight no less, you are still born during one of the phases of the moon. Even if technically the moon phase you were born under is the one of your first night on your first birthday. And the moon phase you were born under can affect your personality just as much as your Zodiac sign will…although in very different ways.
What Moon Phase Was I Born Under? : A quick guide to the zodiac
The Western Zodiac
The western zodiac originates in ancient Greece and Rome and has twelve phases that coincide with twelve different constellations. They loosely coincide with the 12 months out of the year, though not substantially enough to set your calendar by.

The twelve zodiac signs:
- Aries
- Taurus
- Gemini
- Cancer
- Leo
- Virgo
- Libra
- Scorpio
- Sagitarius
- Capricorn
- Aquarius
- Pisces
Each sign has different and special attributes for the personalities of those born under their sign, both positive and negative. For the most part, these are explained using purposefully vague phrases so it can cover the widest array of personalities possible.
There is even a method for using the zodiac sign to predict how someone’s day is going to go. This is often referred to as a horoscope, and you find them in newspapers, magazines, and on various websites and daily emails. These usually use the same principles and methods that the attributes use, giving them all the future seeing power of a fortune cookie.
What is effective, are these personalized star charts, which are much more reliable and a lot less likely to be vague on purpose. They utilize the zodiac sign you’re born under, as well as the astrological conditions of your birthday and the date in question to give more specific advice and answers.
These are hard to do, that’s why they’re not mass produced the way the other more generalized advice is. If you want an answer to the “What phase was I born under?” question and how that affects your star charts, follow this link to find an experienced star-charter!
The Chinese Zodiac
The Chinese zodiac doesn’t involve the moon as much, and if you look into it, it definitely won’t answer the “what moon sign was I born under?” question. There are a lot of differences between the western zodiac and the Chinese zodiac, but a few similarities bridge the gap fairly well.
The Chinese zodiac is based on a 12 year calendar, rather than a 12 month calendar. And instead of being named after Ancient Greek Traditions like the western zodiac is, they’re named after important animals, and it’s supposed to follow along with the Chinese Lunar calendar, though in the Western world we tend to ignore that.
- Rat
- Ox
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Snake
- Horse
- Goat
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Pig
What sign is this year?
2018 is the year of the dog.
Every Year of the Dog since the dawn of the 20th century:
1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018.
They say that people born in the year of the dog are loyal, curious, smart, and honest. They share many traits with the longtime friend of humans. If you have a child that’s born in the year of the dog, or if you are, you’ll find yourself in good company: Winston Churchill, Ellen DeGeneres, and even Madonna are part of your crew.
